heart coaster

What a week. I took Preslie in Monday morning to get her tonsils and adenoids removed. Dax was on a work trip so I left Hunter to care for the littles. Preslie was super nervous. When the nurse took her blood pressure, it showed.
 The freaking out was real!
When she came out of surgery, she kept going, "Whoa!" "I don't remember anything!" "Are they really out?" "Whoa." "That wasn't even that bad!" (Later that evening, it WAS that bad) While we were at the hospital, my girlfriend Jolona took Mack to audition for Missoula Children's Theater. He's wanted to be in a play so badly so he went for it!

Preslie and I arrived home from the hospital and found out Mack got a part! He was to be a pumpkin in the play. Yay!
The next moment I found out that our dear friends tragically lost their 12-year-old son the night before. My heart has been so heavy. This spunky boy was my cub scout and his Mom was my den leader assistant as well as a good friend since I moved to Roosevelt. My heart is broken. Friday I went to the viewing. Upon entering the church, I felt sick knowing that my friend was going through this. I saw her and we just hugged and cried. There is nothing to say to parents who have lost a child. You simply hug and cry. I pray every day that they will unite together as a family and that they will be strengthened in their trials. It is amazing what happens when hard times come and you turn to the Lord. I've felt peace and guidance in the most crazy of life's trials. Though I've lost a few people that are close to me, this boy's death hit me pretty hard. I do have a testimony of eternal families and of the healing power of Christ's atonement.

During the week, Preslie had friends come visit and bring popsicles and balloons. And a giant bear.

Although it's always crappy to get your tonsils out, I dare say (in this case) that doing it with an older child is slightly better because it's easier to get them to drink plus they're bigger and stronger. It's sad to see your kids in pain, but especially the little ones. Also reasoning with a 4-year-old with a sore throat is impossible.

My boys surprisingly have played really cute together this week. They generally don't hang out that much but I've loved seeing them have lightsaber battles and play Legos.
General Grievous

Here are my tonsil twins with their matching hospital mugs. Good to have all the tonsil surgeries over with! Deductible was met, people. Mack is the only one with tonsils left in our family. That kid can never follow the norm! Good for him.

My father-in-law came up to play with my other kids while I took care of my baby teenager. Mack had play practice all week and performed in the play Cinderella twice on Saturday. He was totally darling and LOVED the experience. He even had a little solo part that made our hearts burst! Saturday night at bedtime Mack said, "Mom let's find another play I can be in right now."

Sunday we went to church and in sacrament meeting, Preslie told me she felt hot. I touched her head and she was warm and sweaty. Dax took her home, fed her and she went to bed. At that point, I felt apprehensive about sending her to girls camp the next day. Well, she woke me up this morning at 6 and had me drop her off at the church! I sure hope she does ok! She is one week out from her surgery and I sent her to the mountains with a bottle of Tylenol! So we will see if I get awarded Mom of the Year.

Quinn has been melting my heart. She made her own cookbook last week with her delicious salsa recipe in it and we were going to make it but she couldn't find her cook book. So I got out a little cookbook my grandmother gave me when I was little and she picked a banana bread recipe for us to make. We headed to the store to get bananas and I just loved our conversations and the fact that she wore a ring and that she gasped when we pulled into the store parking lot and said, "Capri Suns are on sale!"
I just have to share that as I was typing this, a super annoying big loud buzzy fly was circling around the room trying to break my concentration so I texted Dax who was in the other room..

Dax is pretty much the most fun husband of all time. I love how he keeps things light. Life gets too serious sometimes! Also- his cooking. So yeah, best husband ever.

extreme makeover: bedroom edition

My friend Jo was sick of her dark master bedroom and asked me for some direction. The first thing I told her to do was de-junk. She has a huge walk-in closet, but it was so crammed with stuff that clothes and shoes were trickling out into the bedroom and making unwanted piles of clutter.

After Jolona de-junked, we worked on furniture placement. She had too much furniture on the wall opposite her bed. She also had a treadmill in front of her window.
She sold the treadmill and we moved things around.

Her bench took its spot at the foot of the bed. Notice the paintings sadly tacked to the wall above Jo's bed. She bought those in the Dominican Republic 3 years ago while visiting her parents on their mission. She had fallen out of love with them and was just sick of the conglomeration of stuff she had going in there.

Bottom line: Her room had become a catch-all with no clear theme. The happy vibes of her paintings were lost amongst the other random decor, dark paint, and clutter.

Our mission was clear: we needed to
  • paint!
  • update curtains
  • frame those awesome paintings!
  • reupholster the bench
  • add complementing decor

We worked/played our guts out for 7 days and transformed the entire room!
I love the new look. It's got island vibes with Latin influence.

We found this cool orange ship painting at Savers and decorated with some of Jo's husband's mission souvenirs from Brazil. If you have a whip in your master bedroom, it totally takes it up a notch!
These woven baskets hung over the archway sing Spanish love songs to me! I found all of them for around a dollar each at DI.

If you peek through the arched doorway, you can see into Jo's new bathroom.

Before the makeover, Jolona's favorite thing about her bathroom was her laundry shoot cabinet.
My favorite thing was her soaker tub.

So she worked on the wall adjacent to her cabinet...

And I worked on "installing" a wood beam over her tub...

I think a big fancy tub needs candles! I found these AWESOME solid brass candlesticks at DI for $10.

The whole project took about 7 days (crazy!). We painted and decorated the whole thing for $200. That is so inexpensive when you think about at all the things we used in the makeover:
  • 4 gallons of paint
  • curtains, curtain rod, curtain clips
  • 4 throw pillows
  • upholstery fabric
  • art and decor
  • plants
  • wood glaze
  • pillow cases
  • wood for framing artwork
  • bedspread
Jolona is thrilled with her new master and I am so happy with how it all came together.

Momentous Occasions

ALL my siblings were at my parents' house for Thanksgiving! (I'm counting Tiphanie, because she was smiling down on us!) How about my little bro's heads touching in this pic? aw, cute.
There were a few people snapping pics, my aunt, my nephew, and bro-in-law and we were saying 'CHEESE' for the cameras... Then my nephew Kendrick was snapping a pic of us and says, "Everyone say....AUBRAE'S Pregnant!"
That is when this pic was snapped...
So my sister is going to be a GRANDMA. My parents will be GREAT Grandparents. I will be a great-aunt!  My niece is having a baby! I am so excited. ALSO! Tyrel and his wife are expecting! I am so excited for them. They have wanted another baby and have had failed attempts. The 2 moms-to-be...
The Warner Kids. We miss Tiphy so much..

Siblings, spouses and kids and granddog. Mom can't do stairs too well or we would have had my parents join the pic. So we made her stay in and get the rest of the meal ready for us.
I brought perler beads (melting beads) and we all had fun making designs.
Mom worked her guts out and we all tried to help. The food was so yummy and it was fun to be around my crazy fam. The day after Thanksgiving, my dad took us all to Heber to ride the North Pole Express. He is so sweet. We had fun!

Once Santa boarded the train, I quickly looked around for Quinn so I could get her ready to see Santa. Then I looked over and she was already right there talking to him getting a jingle bell. Love that girl.

We shopped a bit. Dax attempted black friday for the first time ever. He survived! It was wacky but we managed to get something cool for one of the kids for Christmas.
Tisha mastered the rubic's cube. That lady loves a challenge.
Another momentous occasion is...MY MASTER SUITE is this close to being DONE! Yah-HOOO! It is looking fun. I can't wait to post pics.

We hosted our 6th annual Holiday party/Friendsgiving/Gobble Gala... not sure the name but pretty much we cook a turkey and other delish food with the Sampsons and Ewells. We love doing it and we love them.
6 adults, 13 kids, turkey, prime rib, mashed potatoes, gravy, rolls, tangy green beans, cream corn, and 7 pies! Yippee!

I could never ask for more beautiful December weather! I love it so much!
Stay tuned for my Master reveal!
