Once upon a time a dad took his 2-year-old boy on a ward fathers and sons campout and ever since then the boy has asked on occasion, "Dad, when are we going on
another fathers and sons campout?" So tuesday night, the dad took the little boy camping (so what if it was the middle of October?). Before they went, they stopped at the grocery store for some food. Passing by the drink aisle, the father reached for a big bottle of Hawaiian Punch and his boy says, "Dad, can I have one of those, too?" "Sure, buddy." and the dad grabs a smaller one for his son. Then they grabbed some hot dogs-the dad reached for the cheddar brats, and the son says, "No dad, you have to get these!" and pointed to the cheap-ola Bar S brand hot dogs. So both went into the cart. And then to the snack aisle...the father reaches for salt and vinegar Pringles, and the boy points at the nacho cheese Doritos and asks, "Can we get these instead?" "You bet, buddy." Then they were off to the mountains.
They set up their tent, made a fire, and cooked their dinner. By then the son was starving and scarfed down his hot dog faster than the father had ever seen. They went for a nice walk around the area, climbed on some rocks, and turned in early for bed-the son had been so excited for their campout that he never did have a nap that day). And, as it sometimes does in October, the wind blew and howled all night long, and it was a little cold for the boy-who kept kicking off his sleeping bag. So the father did not get much sleep with the wind howling, the tent being blown, and trying to keep his son's sleeping bag on him all night. But that's ok because a little boy felt like the luckiest kid in the world because he got to go camping, just him and his daddy.
