Hootenanny..."what's that?"

This yummy creation is called "hootenanny". Many people might know this dish by the name German pancake. But if you are a Mangus, it is hootenanny. It is the most fun thing to pull out of the oven because of its crazy sides (and sometimes middle) that raise way way above the dish. It is a favorite breakfast at our house. Here is the recipe straight from Betty Crocker:
2 Tbs stick margarine or butter
2 large eggs
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup milk
1/4 tsp salt
Heat oven to 400 degrees. Melt margarine in pie plate in oven; brush margarine on side of pie plate.
Beat eggs slightly in medium bowl with wire whisk or hand beater. Beat in remaining ingredients just until mixed. Pour into pie plate.
Bake 25-30 minutes or until puffy and deep golden brown. Serve immediately sprinkled with lemon juice and powdered sugar (that is Betty's suggestion- we just pour maple syrup on ours...yum!)
In the photos above, the recipe was quadrupled and baked in a big cast iron skillet. We usually double or triple it to feed our family of 4. When you triple it, bake it in a 9x13 dish.

Woo Hoo!

I FINALLY got most of my scrapbook stuff unpacked and set up and I am so excited to get to some serious pages before baby comes. Here is my first layout I made today. Ahh, it feels so good to create again! But, I think I am glutten for punishment, because I decided to make our baby's baby book. It seems easy in thought-we'll see how it goes. One page down...

The First Day Of School!
It is the very first day of school for the rest of this girl's life! She was so excited to go to kindergarten today! She has been so ready. I know she will love it!
She wanted to walk so bad...I tried to talk her out of it since it was hot and kind of far and I knew that her brother would have a hard time making it that far (and back)...but we did it. I thought they looked so cute with their matching packs on-Little buddy of course had to bring his. He couldn't decide what to put in it, so he put in his bear. What a cutie.
A cute snapshot before we walk her to her class! (Mental note-use the flash when you're outside on a sunny day)
We got to her class and her teacher gave her a cute hat to wear. We hugged and kissed her good bye and we were off!
I barely got home and had time to check my mail and upload some photos before it was time to go get her! I spotted her and waved, she saw me and came running to me with a huge smile! It was so fun to hear all about her first day. I am so proud of her! What a bright and fun little girl she is. It has been so weird for me to think about having a child old enough to go to school- time really does pass so quickly! She is so eager to learn and I know she will soak up every little thing about school that she can. It is a new phase of life for us and it is super exciting!
Labor Day Weekend

We went to Santa Clara (St. George) last weekend to see family and go to D's 10 year high school reunion! They had a family activity/lunch at the park and then an adult dinner that evening. The parks there are starting to put in these cool splash pad things with squirting fountains that are so fun! What a great idea...who really wants to go down a slide when it is 100 degrees. Little babe had a blast. It was fun for us to see/meet all of the old classmates.
